Swim Teacher in Water Safety
The Royal Life Saving Swim Teacher Course provides the minimum requirements for those persons wishing to become a learn to swim instructor (for ages 4+). After completion of the course and your industry onboarding you will have the opportunity to apply for a RLSSQ Swim Teacher Licence as outlined in the Guidelines for Safe Pool Operations (GSPO). The Swim Teacher Licensee Handbook will be provided to candidates during the face to face component of the course and outlines the process to obtain a license.

This course includes training for a workplace setting and upon satisfaction completion of all assessment activities, a Statement of Attainment will be issued in the following Unit(s) of competence:

  • HLTAID009 Perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (Optional)
  • SISCAQU002 Perform Basic Water Rescues
  • SISCAQU008  Instruct water familiarisation, buoyancy and mobility skills
  • SISCAQU009  Instruct water safety and survival skills
  • SISCAQU010  Instruct swimming strokes

Please check with your employer or work place that these are the correct units of competence.

First Aid
The Royal Life Saving Provide First Aid Course provides the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to a casualty. The unit applies to all workers who may be required to provide a first aid response in a range of situations‚ including community and workplace settings.

The course aims to establish competence in the required skills and knowledge‚ judgement and physical abilities required to provide a first aid response to a casualty.

Minimum age: 14 years
Course Length: 8 hours
Re-Accreditation: 3 years (CPR 12 months)
Level of English: A reasonable level of English is required to be able to complete this course successfully

Units of Competency:
Upon successful course completion, participants will be issued a Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment with the following units of competency:
• HLTAID009 Perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
• HLTAID010 Provide Basic Emergency Life Support
• HLTAID011 Provide First Aid

Pool Lifeguard Update
The Pool Lifeguard Update on course is for Lifeguard professionals who have the current Pool Lifeguard Units of Competency.
 
This course will provide participants with acceptable standards of knowledge‚ judgement and physical abilities in the supervision of people in swimming pools. Essential modules include: accident prevention‚ administration‚ public relations‚ education‚ rescue response and basic technical operations.

The Royal Life Saving Pool Lifeguard needs to be renewed every 12 months.
Minimum age requirement is 16 years.

Pre-requisites include a current First Aid (HLTAID003/HLTAID011) and an expiring Royal Life Saving Society Pool Lifeguard & Oxygen including units of competency

  • SISCAQU002 Perform basic water rescues
  • SISCAQU006 Supervise clients in aquatic locations
  • SISCAQU007  Perform advanced water rescues
  • PUAEME001  Provide emergency care
  • PUAEME003  Administer oxygen in an emergency 
  • HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation

    A copy of these units of competency will be required at the time of booking if issued by another provider.
